Sorry pal, I can't understand a thing of this. Is this a Blue Omen Operation parody?

Consider getting a scanner, or doing the drawings digitally.

unknownstudios responds:

I apologize for the blurry ness I'll try to do subtitles next time.
But besides that
1. I don't know what blue omen is,
2. My digital drawings look terrible.

It's an interesting landscape, sadly it doesn't loop the rain sound very well. You can hear it fade in at the start.

Also those buildings certainly need some lightning rods if they're striking the sides like that!

Arthur-Muvhali responds:

noted, and thanks for the advice

Pretty good for your first animation! I like the expressions and the squish.

I feel the delivery of the original joke is a bit different from what you've animated. Not entirely sure if I get it. It's a clean animation style though so that's pretty nice, lip sync could be a bit smoother but overall rather fun.

qplok02 responds:

Thank you for the tips. I'll be more careful next time.

This is very nice for a work in progress.

The first 25 seconds were pretty good with setting the atmosphere, but then once the action picked up I felt like it was severely lacking in sound effects, combined with things just floating across the screen it felt very confusing to me.

This has a lot of potential though, needs some more inbetweens and more sounds for stuff happening and it ought to be a very solid fight animatic.

jng-artimation responds:

Yea, I had some hiccups trying to find SFX and come up with foliage with a lot of the sounds while also trying not to use copyrighted material such as background music. It is one of my earlier attempts after getting the hang of doing animatics but I'll keep a lot of these points in mind when I make future videos.

This was alright, Sally is a relatable character.
Good job with the Narration, I could barely notice an accent. You can do quite a lot with that.

As a side note, there is no reason to have this be served in Flash. There is no interactivity and takes away the ability to watch it on Mobile. Consider porting future animations to mp4 using Swivel or what else.

Gabriel-A responds:

Thanks man. I'll try to put my next animations in mp4. I'm already working on a story about an assassin that has a deep story.

Pretty cool stuff man, my favorites were around 0:46; solid anatomy and perspective/turn around studies. The old tests were pretty nice as well, you seem to have frame by frame down for the most part.

As we are speaking animation though, I'm not sure how you connect different things into your work to give it life, so I suggest making a short if you want actual critique.

If I were to look at this as a movie it is kinda lacking since there's a lot of silence and empty space. Could certainly cut down on some of that silence and add some audio; it's not because this is a experimental reel that you can't make it efficient or even interesting on its own.

Cristalflake responds:

Thank you so much!! Actually, its silent because the first animatic was with some copyright music, so i took it off, but didn't added nothing else (im kinda dumb too)
Also, thanks for the tip! I'll try to make some shorts too to add here!

I really like the sync at the start and the frame by frame, the character design is very nice too.
However I couldn't understand what happened at the end there, this looks like a WIP overall.

Sadly I can't be vouching for it in its current state.

Tabuley responds:

can't blame you haha, it's just a dumb shitpost for twitter that I thought i'd try to upload there as well.

A little bit too "edgy" for my taste. The sudden, random violence pulled out of nowhere in the short isn't as appealing or as freaky as you might think it is. The animation was "reasonable", though a bit choppy here and there. The story (if there was any) didn't add up or was too hard to follow, followed by an abrupt ending which looked pretty bad in my opinion as you apparently stretched the last frame and put effects everywhere rather than making it look like actual film getting ripped.

You should probably attempt to animate water/blood drips manually, also. Most of the blood effects you made looked incredibly artificial rather than fluid (which would look good rather than just silly).

I understand it is a short and all, but it does have a lot of flaws. And taken that you seem to be very proud of this character (to the point of monetizing him) I felt that pointing out what seemed odd about it would benefit everybody.

2.5/5 - 5/10

Comick responds:

Bleh your review was so condescending and pompous while trying to sound "profound". Its quite obvious this cartoon hit a note with you to bother writing all you did, but I hardly doubt if I cleaned up the blood and film decay that your true malice-soaked opinions about my cartoon or my characters would change at all. Thanks for nothing

I don't know much about your work but I'm fairly certain most background art is clearly traced over and that is plain unacceptable under artistic terms. The animation quality was also significantly poor.

In other thoughts, it is intriguing the day-to-day mindsetting of med-students and patients alike, and the short film sort of represents those feelings through an artistic endeavor. I saw your blog you've advertised at the end and it is plain vital for understanding the movie, all in all it is pretty deep and I enjoyed it.

I'll advise you so you focus more on improving your art-style so your "everything" is slightly more clear and more pleasant to stare at. Greetings from Brazil.

peef2 responds:

thank you for your comment. i'm glad you enjoyed my blog; hopefully it allows you to understand more.

yes it is true, some of the background is traced, but i don't agree with your statement that this makes it any less of an "art". like one who is making a film movie, i must first do location scouting before i can start. due to funds and other practical factors, i am limited to the internet. even with limitations, the scenery was still carefully selected. in the case of a film, they are just photographing and "tracing" over reality and converting it into the medium they are presenting their work. for me, i am tracing over and reducing my selections down to 2 colors (or 1 color, depending on your definition of color), which i believe takes quite some effort, as you lose ability to contrast things through saturation, as well as hue. i hope you understand. it may not appeal to you and that is fine with me, but i don't think it is "unacceptable" for art. have you ever seen an andy warhol painting?

Well

Even though Oney seems like a douchebag most of the time, he is actually pretty successful in what he does.

Which mean that, in the end, you just jelly.
